Why food and business?
BUSINESS - however much some might not like it, business and livelihoods are also central. They may be part of the problem but they are certainly part of the solution. One of the success stories of this area is the rapid development of vibrant local food producers and retailers - often reviving old breeds, attempting to farm more in harmony with the natural environment and selling directly to locals or through unconventional channels. Where does our work overlap with business? If we fail to engage with business, we miss a great opportunity to make things better - by making business more efficient, more environment and climate friendly but also to think about ways that we can stimulate the development of future proof and sustainable business. If an area like this fails to generate sustainable and viable businesses providing employment and other benefits the future will be bleak. There are lots of ways that existing business can be made more sustainable and future proof. There are also new businesses that could be established and could flourish going forward.
