The Southern Skirmish Association

The Southern Skirmish Association was formed in the U.K. in 1968, when a small group of American Civil War enthusiasts got together to pursue their interest. It was decided straight away that the best way to do this would be to re-enact battles. From this small beginning, SOSKAN as we are also known, has become the foremost ACW society in Europe.

During the year SOSKAN musters at various sites around the country, for re-enactment and living history events.

The bulk of the society is made up of infantry regiments, as well as Artillery and Cavalry, where each one, be it Union, or Confederate is a faithful reproduction of the original unit. Each regiment's history is carefully studied, uniforms copied, flags made and flown. They drill and fight to original manuals using the original drills. Apart from these main constituents, the society also has a fully equipped and working medical corp, who give very realistic displays. Add to this our Engineers, Ordanance, and Veteran Reserve Corps, and you will find most things available.

Apart from re-enacting, SOSKAN's Museum has the largest exhibition of ACW relics outside of the United States and it travels all over the U.K. putting on displays.
