MY PROBLEM SAAB 900 SITE

BBC WATCHDOG

When I first turned up for a test drive of my SAAB 900 at my local SAAB Dealer the sales person was unable to start it as the battery was flat - so he attempted to jump start it from another SAAB . The result was loads of smoke appearing from the SAAB 900 engine bay I suspect a blown alternator diode pack. I now believe that somebody or something was trying to tell me not to buy this car and I should have walked away at this point. But unfortunately I did not. At a later date after the SAAB 900 was repaired I test drove the vehicle and the fateful decision was made.

I have owned three Saab's. A Saab 96 V4 - this was the best car I have ever owned well built and engineered I had no real problems with it. Even though it had covered quite a high mileage it was like new inside and out and was joy to drive and own. The column change and free wheel - clutchless changes space age head rests an unforgetable experience. The next Saab was a 99 GL Automatic 5 Door and to be quite honest was not in the same class as the 96 and no way as well built or engineered also the car suffered some problems a rebuilt auto box and new cylinder head, seized brakes. The Saab dealer in this case did a good job in fixing it - maybe? I never kept it long enough to find out. The 99 had not even reached 100K miles before I sold it. Not to be put off I decided to purchase a 1988 model year Saab 900 2 Door saloon.

Hundreds of cars, big and small, are recalled every year by their manufacturers when defects and safety risks are discovered. Why do we allow this to happen? As a consumer we should not tolerate it? The public are being used to prototype test Saab cars, for what reason I can only speculate. To save money comes to mind. There is no excuse for allowing potentially dangerous cars onto our roads. Most people would admit that cars by there very nature are dangerous. So to release them not fully tested on the unaware public must be a criminal act? No doubt Saab would try to apportion the blame on there sub component manufacturers. Comments Please? Check here to see if your Saab is a potentially unsafe products. If anybody has any further faults which could be added please let me know. Statistics from car manufacturers should be taken with a pinch of salt. You can manipulate the devil to look good - take a look at the worlds leaders and you will see what I mean. But cold hard facts cannot be denied. One crash test is enough because it is the one crash that can kill you check out the following links.

The car has however started to deteriorate, through poor quality design. With the seat belts wearing through the seat velour. The front seat belt return springs have insufficient pull so that belt is constantly getting caught in door and consequently damaging the door trim. The rear seat belt plastic guides through the rear parcel shelf are of such low quality design that they pop out every time the rear belts are used these have now been been glued in place. The front tyres have always worn on the outside edge apparently due to the power stearing which is strange as all my miles are on motorway type roads. The Saab dealer checked this one out and said it was normal - Normal to Saab maybe but not any other car I have owned. The roof internal lining peeling away in places it has turned to powder which is unsightly. Also the cheap plastic glove box door is distorted but they come like this new. The bonnet and tail badges disintegrated and needed replacing. Water gets into the boot and rust was evident in the door aperture which I attempted to get fixed under warranty. Unfortunately they were blind and could not see a large brown rusty area the size of a coin even though the colour of the car was white and the car visited the paint shop twice. Again there are far to many problems to list here. Is this a quality car?

The following link gives some idea of what depth Saab will sink to sell these cars. Yes I find it unbelievable as well they had a go at Volvo and we still let them sell cars in this country. I currently own a Volvo 740 which is a superb car. Volvo dealers in my experience can be trusted. The Volvo 740 and the 240 we had before, are high quality products unlike the Saab 900 which in my experience is low quality junk.

From some of the e-mail I have received. Also reports in the motoring media and even the UK Saab owners club have had letters about the poor reliability. Some people are surprised by the poor reliability compared to so-called lessor marque's - this therefore is not an isolated incident. If enough abused Saab owners stand up and say what has happened to them or publish a web page Saab may take note and change their ways. I understand it is difficult for people to admit they made a mistake in purchasing an expensive automobile - please come forward tell us your tale. This site is under constant development. More venom will be added later. Photos Letters etc etc. If you have any suitable material please feel free to contact me. Press enquiries welcome. Do you want to advertise on my site?

This is an online testimonial to the poor commitment I feel SAAB GB has to its customers. But in my opinion the cars are not nearly as bad as the company or dealers. This site is not intended to discourage people from buying Saabs. As I say elsewhere, this site is not anti Saab. In many ways I feel that Saab has the most interesting car line of any European manufacturer - in a sort of eastern European sense. I just don't care much for the way I have been treated by certain individuals at Saab dealers and Saab GB inability to listen. It appears that the interests of the dealers come before the customers. Everything on these pages should be taken with a grain of salt since I am a dissatisfied customer and am not objective. Yes these cars are dire.

The purpose of this site is multiple:
1.Provide information regarding Consumer Organisations.
2.To warn others of possible problems with local Saab dealers.
3.Document problems that I experienced with my Saab.
4.Give Saab some bad press in hopes that they change their ways.
5.Provide Information On Saab Recalls - Yes These Cars Could Be Unsafe.
6.Get revenge for 1 and half years of hell from Saab dealers.
