SAAB Advertisement Scandal.

Claims Made By SAAB In June 1997. They Also Made Claims That The Volvo S70 Did Not Have An Offset Crash Protection System.

Above Is An Extract From Volvo S70 Brochure In Which They State There Is Some Form Of Offset Crash Protection.

Who Is Telling The Truth Here?

The Euro New Car Assessment Programme NCAP Realeased The Results Of Recent Offset Crash Testing In Which The New Saab 900 Performance Was Found Wanting. It Scored Two Stars Out Of A Possible Four Stars. A Volvo S40 However Scored The Maximum Four Stars.

What Is Going On Here?

Notice The Important Sponsors Involved In The Euro NCAP Tests Which Was Released In August 1997. In Light Of SAAB's Poor Performance And The Claims They Were Making I Contacted The Advertising Standards Authority ASA About The Misleading Advertisements And The Poor Showing In The Recent NCAP Offset Crash Testing. They Took It Up With SAAB Who have assured the ASA That The Claims Will Not Appear In Future Advertisements.

So Where Does This Leave You If You Have Bought A SAAB 900 On The Strength Of This Type Of Advertising?

If SAAB Was Telling The Truth Why Did They Not Dispute It With The ASA?

Offset Crash Protection on the 900 has been tested to 34mph by SAAB. if 'Saab 900 A Swedish Story - Edition 2 1993' by Anders Tunburg is correct in its figures. Which is forwarded by the President of Saab Automobile AB. The EuroNCAP test was carried out at 40 mph. Saab should have stated on the advertisement at what speed the Offset Crash Protection worked. They should have checked the facts as far as Volvo was concerned. Safety should not be taken so lightly - Please do not believe the hype.

The case of the dodgy SAAB Cabriolet and the Main City Dealer...

WOULD YOU BUY A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY?

This is an online testimonial to the poor commitment I feel SAAB GB has to its customers. But in my opinion the cars are not nearly as bad as the company or dealers.
This site is not intended to discourage people from buying Saabs. As I say elsewhere, this site is not anti Saab. In many ways I feel that Saab has the most interesting car line of any European manufacturer - I just don't care much for the way I have been treated by certain individuals at Saab dealers and Saab GB inability to listen. It appears that the interests of the dealers come before the customers. Everything on these pages should be taken with a grain of salt since I am a dissatisfied customer and am not objective.

The purpose of this site is multiple:
1.Provide information regarding the Consumer Organisations.
2.To warn others of possible problems with local Saab dealers.
3.Document problems that I experienced with my Saab.
4.Give Saab some bad press in hopes that they change their ways.
5.Get revenge for 1 and half years of hell from Saab dealers.

However this advertisement is I believe in breach of ASA rules.
